Temasek, LIC and Canadian pension fund prepare stake sales in NSE IPO
Global investors are positioning themselves for a major financial event as India prepares the initial public offering of its leading stock market operator, the National Stock Exchange of India. The listing is expected to attract significant attention due to the scale of the exchange and the number of major institutional investors involved.
Among those planning to sell shares are Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek Holdings, India’s state-run insurer Life Insurance Corporation of India, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board. Together with other investors, they are expected to offload stakes as part of the upcoming public offering.
The IPO could raise approximately $2.75 billion, based on an estimated valuation of around $55 billion for the exchange, according to market platforms tracking unlisted shares. This makes it one of the most significant listings in India’s financial sector in recent years.
The planned share sale reflects growing global interest in India’s capital markets, which have expanded rapidly due to strong economic growth and increasing retail and institutional participation. The city of Mumbai, where the exchange is based, remains the country’s main financial hub.
The listing of the National Stock Exchange of India is also seen as a milestone for market transparency and investor access, as it will bring one of the country’s most influential financial institutions into the public market.
Analysts say the participation of large global investors highlights confidence in India’s long-term market potential, even as volatility and global economic uncertainty continue to affect international markets.
