Morocco recently played a pivotal role in the 38th session of the Steering Committee for the "5+5 Defense" Initiative, held in Madrid, Spain. This two-day event, under the Spanish Presidency, served as a crucial platform for participating nations to oversee and advance military cooperation activities outlined in this year's action plan.

During the meeting, attendees focused on monitoring the progress of ongoing initiatives while also laying the groundwork for the 2025 action plan. Moreover, they closely evaluated the contributions of academic institutions associated with the initiative, including the "5+5 Defence" College and the Euro-Maghreb Centre for Strategic Research and Studies (CEMRES).

Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles highlighted the importance of considering additional factors such as the role of women and the impact of climate change in shaping the 2025 action plan. Minister Robles emphasized the significance of supporting training and research activities, particularly those conducted by CEMRES and the '5+5 Defence' College, esteemed institutions in their own right.

The 5+5 Defense Initiative, a collaborative effort between five European nations (Spain, France, Italy, Malta, and Portugal) and five North African countries (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Mauritania), aims to bolster regional stability and security through military cooperation and dialogue. By actively engaging in this influential forum, Morocco reaffirms its dedication to enhancing regional ties and fostering peace and security in the Mediterranean region.
