Steadfast Diplomacy: Japan Applauds Morocco's Credible Efforts on Sahara

In a diplomatic gesture affirming Morocco's credibility regarding the Sahara issue, Japan has expressed appreciation for Morocco's serious and credible efforts within the framework of the autonomy initiative aimed at resolving the long-standing dispute.

This stance was articulated by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa during her talks in Tokyo with Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, as stated in a communiqué issued by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Drawing upon Japan's consistent position, Yoko Kamikawa referred to "the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented on April 11, 2007, to the UN Secretary-General," underscoring Morocco's serious and credible efforts to advance the process towards resolving the issue (Sahara). Nasser Bourita, who is on an official visit to Japan, welcomed Japan's stance on the Sahara issue.

During their talks in Tokyo on Friday, the ministers also expressed their nations' determination to further strengthen bilateral relations, encompassing various areas of cooperation. Yoko Kamikawa highlighted the historically friendly relations between Morocco and Japan, founded on the friendship between the two imperial and royal families.

She conveyed her country's willingness to further promote its relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, a partner with which Japan cooperates in several areas, particularly economic. For his part, Nasser Bourita expressed the hope that the Memorandum of Cooperation for an Enhanced Partnership, signed on Friday in Tokyo between Morocco and Japan, would further consolidate bilateral cooperation across a wide range of domains, including political, security, economic, infrastructure, renewable energy, and food security.

In this document, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to work together to preserve international peace and order, based on the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, as well as the principles of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Japan's appreciation for Morocco's credible efforts on the Sahara issue resonates deeply, as the kingdom continues to advocate for a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution within the framework of the autonomy initiative. This diplomatic endorsement not only bolsters Morocco's position but also underscores the global community's recognition of the kingdom's commitment to resolving this long-standing territorial dispute through dialogue and diplomacy.

As Morocco and Japan strengthen their multifaceted partnership, their shared dedication to upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity sets the stage for a more prosperous and stable regional landscape. This diplomatic milestone serves as a testament to the enduring power of principled diplomacy in navigating complex geopolitical challenges.
