On Wednesday, the Moroccan people enthusiastically celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Green March, a pivotal event in the nation's history that symbolizes the ongoing commitment to complete the territorial integrity of the Kingdom. Initiated by the visionary late King Hassan II, this monumental march aimed to liberate the Southern provinces from Spanish colonial rule, marking a significant chapter in Morocco's struggle for sovereignty.

The Green March commenced on November 6, 1975, when hundreds of thousands of volunteers, driven by their faith and patriotism, organized themselves from various regions of Morocco to march towards the Southern provinces. This collective effort is forever etched in Moroccan history as a powerful demonstration of unity between the Alaouite throne and the Moroccan populace, reflecting a shared commitment to sacred national values.

The commemoration serves not only as a moment to honor past glories but also as an opportunity to galvanize support for building a modern Morocco under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Armed with the Holy Quran and national flags, the masses compelled colonial authorities to acknowledge their will, leading to the end of colonial rule in these provinces.

This historic event showcases the unwavering determination and faith of Moroccans in reclaiming their rightful lands. The peaceful and orderly nature of this liberation effort underscores the volunteers' belief in their cause and Morocco's right to recover its Southern provinces.

The Moroccan flag was raised triumphantly over Laâyoune on February 28, 1976, followed by the reclamation of Oued Ed-dahab on August 14, 1979, effectively ending foreign occupation in these territories. Today, this legacy continues as Morocco remains steadfast in its efforts to counteract adversarial maneuvers against its territorial integrity, under King Mohammed VI's guidance.

Morocco is resolutely committed to defending its legitimate rights and reinforcing national unity regarding its territorial claims. The nation’s determination is further exemplified through ongoing development initiatives that have positioned the Southern provinces as one of Morocco's most promising regions in terms of social achievements, healthcare services, housing, economic growth, and employment opportunities.

Thanks to an ambitious economic development model spearheaded by the Sovereign, Moroccan Sahara is poised to become a regional and international hub, enhancing connections between Morocco and its African roots. The celebration of this anniversary serves as a renewed call for unity among Moroccans to uphold their territorial integrity and national interests.
