Spain’s Ambassador: Fez World Sacred Music Festival Sparks Dialogue, Cultural Harmony

The Fez World Sacred Music Festival, set to take place from May 24 to June 1, promises a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity and international dialogue, with Spain honored as the guest country. Enrique Ojeda Vila, Spain’s ambassador to Morocco, highlighted the festival's role as a global platform for fostering intercultural understanding and cooperation.

Vila expressed his pride in Spain’s prominent participation this year, emphasizing that the festival has transcended its regional roots to attain worldwide recognition. "The Fez World Sacred Music Festival has surpassed its regional scope to establish itself globally," he remarked.

This year's festival will showcase a rich array of music genres, prominently featuring Ladino songs and Spanish Flamenco. The ambassador underscored Spain’s robust representation over the ten-day event, including performances by acclaimed flamenco guitarist Vicente Amigo.

Highlighting the deep cultural ties between Morocco and Spain, Vila pointed out that the geographical proximity and personal connections between the two nations enhance collaborative efforts in various fields. "This proximity between the two countries facilitates the implementation of joint creative projects in the fields of art, music, education, and scientific research," he said.

The ambassador also referenced joint cultural initiatives such as the Tarifa-Tangier African Film Festival, which further the dialogue between the two nations. He noted the growing interest among Moroccans in learning Spanish, evidenced by the increasing enrollments at the Cervantes Institute, Spanish schools, and Moroccan universities.

Vila praised the Moroccan diaspora in Spain, which constitutes the largest foreign community in the country, for their significant contributions to Spanish society.

Founded in 1994, the Fez World Sacred Music Festival has evolved into a pivotal event promoting intercultural dialogue. Its Forum, established in 2001, was recognized by the United Nations as a key contributor to the dialogue of civilizations, solidifying its status as a beacon of cultural and spiritual exchange.
