South Korea boosts investment in advanced aircraft technologies for defense
South Korea is stepping up its efforts to strengthen national defense by investing in next-generation aircraft technologies, President Lee Jae Myung announced during a ceremony marking a milestone in the country’s aviation industry.
The initiative includes the development of key components such as engines, advanced materials, and critical systems required for modern fighter jets. The move reflects South Korea’s ambition to enhance its self-reliance in defense manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
The announcement coincided with the rollout of the domestically developed KF-21 Boramae, which is expected to be delivered to the air force and enter operational service later this year. Officials emphasized that the aircraft represents a major step forward for the country’s aerospace capabilities.
South Korea is also exploring international partnerships to expand its defense industry. State-run Korea Aerospace Industries is reportedly in discussions with potential buyers, including Indonesia, regarding future fighter jet exports.
The government sees these investments as part of a broader strategy to strengthen military readiness while supporting innovation and economic growth in high-tech industries.
