A federal sex trafficking trial involving Sean 'Diddy' Combs, the US entertainment mogul and hip-hop icon, is set to begin on May 5, 2024. The case centers around allegations that Combs sexually abused and coerced women over several years, using his extensive network to facilitate sex trafficking across state lines.

At a hearing in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, Combs' family attended in support of the 54-year-old star, who has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including racketeering and sexual assault. Prosecutors accuse Combs of leveraging his influence and employing a group of associates to traffic sex workers, and silencing victims through coercion, blackmail, and physical violence.

One of the key issues discussed during the hearing was the admissibility of a video showing Combs allegedly assaulting a former girlfriend in 2016. The defense team, led by attorney Anthony Ricco, requested that the judge block the video from being used as evidence, arguing that it was leaked by the government and could bias the jury.

Defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo emphasized that the video’s release would unfairly influence the proceedings. However, Assistant US Attorney Emily Johnson dismissed these concerns as "baseless" and insisted that no leaks had come from the prosecution team, calling the defense’s claims an attempt to exclude "damning" evidence.

Federal judge Arun Subramanian, who is presiding over the case, addressed both parties, instructing Agnifilo to draft an order that would ensure all parties adhere to rules regarding the public release of information that could prejudice the trial. This comes as media scrutiny intensifies ahead of what promises to be a high-profile legal battle involving one of the most recognizable figures in the entertainment industry.

In court, Combs, dressed in prison attire, sat next to his legal team and appeared composed, occasionally blowing kisses to his family members in attendance. As the trial date approaches, both sides are expected to present vigorous arguments surrounding the high-stakes case, which could have far-reaching implications for Combs’ career and legacy.

The case has already attracted widespread attention, with many anticipating a dramatic courtroom showdown. If convicted, Combs could face severe penalties, marking a major turning point in the life of one of hip-hop's most iconic figures.
