Saint-denis mayor calls for anti-racism March in June

Bally Bagayoko, the newly elected mayor of Saint-Denis, has called for a large public demonstration against racism to take place on June 21, urging broad participation from across French society.

Originally planned for early May, the march was postponed to allow for stronger mobilization following a series of recent public events. Organizers aim to build on previous gatherings that drew significant crowds and highlighted growing concerns about discrimination and social divisions.

In his public appeal, Bagayoko invited citizens, civil society organizations, and advocacy groups to join what he described as a collective effort to stand against all forms of racism and intolerance. The initiative seeks to bring together a wide range of participants, including community groups, unions, youth organizations, and human rights advocates.

The mayor emphasized the importance of sustained civic engagement, arguing that social change requires continued public pressure and collective action. His message reflects broader debates in France about equality, inclusion, and the role of grassroots movements in shaping public discourse.

The planned march follows earlier demonstrations that were organized in response to controversial public statements that sparked legal and political reactions. Authorities have since opened investigations into alleged discriminatory remarks, contributing to heightened public attention on the issue.

Observers note that the upcoming event could serve as a key moment for mobilization, particularly as discussions around racism, identity, and political rhetoric remain prominent in the national conversation.

While the exact route of the march has yet to be confirmed, organizers hope the event will attract widespread participation and send a strong message in favor of equality and social cohesion.
