Safi police seize 4.7 tonnes of cannabis in major drug bust
Police in the Moroccan city of Safi intercepted a large-scale drug trafficking attempt on Thursday, seizing 4.7 tonnes of cannabis resin (chira). The operation was carried out by the provincial judicial police, in coordination with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The raid took place in the rural area of Ayir, about 60 kilometers from Safi, where officers discovered several bales of cannabis in a foreign-registered utility vehicle. The total weight of the seized drugs amounted to four tonnes and 725 kilograms. The driver fled the scene and remains at large.
A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to identify all individuals connected to the trafficking network and bring them to justice.
