Renault's Bold Move: Establishing Cutting-Edge R&D Center in Tangier to Boost Moroccan Innovation
Renowned global automaker Renault is doubling down on its dedication to research and development in Morocco by unveiling plans to inaugurate its inaugural Research and Development (R&D) center in the kingdom.
Situated in the bustling economic hub of Tangier, the upcoming facility is poised to welcome approximately 100 technicians and engineers, slated to commence operations in early 2025. Industry insiders reveal that this state-of-the-art R&D center will function as a nexus of expertise, facilitating global access for Renault teams to tap into local know-how.
For over a decade, Morocco has strategically played a crucial role in Renault's global operations. Earlier this year, the French automotive giant introduced Renault Digital Maroc in Casablanca, dedicated to the development and maintenance of digital products for Renault's clientele on a global scale.
Morocco has proven to be a pivotal market for Renault, with nearly 60,000 new vehicles sold in the country this year alone, solidifying its position as the tenth largest market globally for the automaker. The two local manufacturing plants, located in Tangier and Casablanca, currently boast a workforce of over 12,000 individuals and jointly rolled out an impressive 380,000 cars in 2023.
In a bold move, Renault is setting its sights higher, targeting a production milestone of 500,000 vehicles in Morocco by 2024 through the introduction of new electric and hybrid models. Insiders indicate that this ambitious expansion is a clear testament to Renault's enduring commitment to innovation in Morocco, further enhancing the kingdom's standing as a global hub within the automotive industry.
