Qatari emir and French president discuss Iran and regional security
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation on Sunday focusing on rising tensions involving Iran and broader regional security concerns, according to a statement from Qatar’s Amiri Diwan.
The two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the Middle East, particularly the growing military presence of the United States in the Persian Gulf and warnings from Tehran about the risk of a wider regional conflict in the event of an attack on Iran. Both sides stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and maintaining stability across the region.
The discussion took place amid heightened rhetoric between Washington and Tehran, with Iranian officials accusing the United States of using sanctions and political pressure to justify potential external intervention. Iran has repeatedly warned that any military action against it would provoke a strong and far-reaching response.
Beyond Iran, the Qatari emir and the French president also addressed the situation in Gaza, emphasizing the need to protect civilians under the current ceasefire and to support humanitarian and reconstruction efforts. The conflict has left massive destruction and significant loss of life, placing enormous pressure on the enclave’s infrastructure.
The talks further covered Lebanon, where both leaders underlined the importance of preserving the country’s security and sovereignty. They discussed ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement and the necessity for all parties to respect existing commitments in order to avoid renewed violence.
