Philippines: Three killed in high school shooting in Tacloban
A shooting at a high school in the central Philippines left at least three people dead and five others injured on Monday, according to local police. The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. in a school located in Tacloban, a city on Leyte Island.
Police said the victims were immediately transported to nearby medical facilities to receive emergency care and appropriate treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the attack.
According to local media reports, two individuals, reportedly students, were arrested in connection with the shooting. One of them was detained at the scene, while police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Although school shootings are relatively uncommon in the Philippines, gun-related violence remains a major concern in the country. Authorities regularly report firearm-related incidents, particularly during election periods and in some remote areas.
The possession of firearms is regulated in the Philippines, but illegal weapons circulation remains a challenge. Previous violent incidents have also raised concerns about public safety and the prevention of gun-related crimes.
The investigation into the Tacloban school shooting is ongoing as authorities work to establish the full details of the attack and determine legal responsibilities.
