Samsung Wallet Arrives in Morocco: Galaxy Smartphones Become Digital Payment Tools
Morocco is taking another step towards the digitalisation of everyday financial services with the official launch of Samsung Wallet, a mobile payment solution designed to turn compatible Galaxy smartphones and smartwatches into digital wallets.
The service was unveiled in Casablanca on November 3, 2026, during an event attended by Ahmed Rahhou, Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation and Administrative Reform. The launch reflects the growing interest in mobile financial services as consumers increasingly seek convenient and secure alternatives to traditional payment methods.
Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab is introducing the service through a partnership involving Attijariwafa bank and international payment networks Mastercard and Visa. Their participation provides the financial infrastructure needed to connect compatible banking cards with Samsung's digital payment ecosystem.
A Smartphone Becomes a Payment Tool
Samsung Wallet allows eligible users to register their bank cards and make contactless purchases directly through compatible Galaxy devices.
Instead of carrying a physical bank card, customers can simply use their smartphone or smartwatch at payment terminals that support contactless transactions. The system is designed to make everyday purchases quicker and more convenient while integrating financial services into devices that users already rely on.
This development could contribute to the broader adoption of mobile payments in Morocco, particularly as digital banking services continue to expand and consumer habits evolve.
Security and Data Protection at the Centre
Beyond convenience, the protection of financial information remains a key element of the new service.
Samsung Wallet relies on Samsung Knox, the security platform integrated into compatible Galaxy devices. The system combines device-level protection with authentication mechanisms intended to prevent unauthorised access and safeguard transactions.
By placing security alongside ease of use, Samsung aims to strengthen consumer confidence in smartphone-based payments and encourage wider acceptance of digital wallets.
A Partnership Supporting Morocco's Digital Payment Ecosystem
The Moroccan launch brings together three major financial partners: Attijariwafa bank, Mastercard and Visa.
This collaboration connects a leading Moroccan banking institution with two international payment networks, creating a framework for integrating digital payment technology into the country's existing financial infrastructure.
Hongseok Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Maghreb Arab, said the company's ambition is to make payments as natural as using a smartphone or connected watch. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation with financial partners in bringing practical digital innovations to consumers.
More Than Contactless Payments
Samsung Wallet is designed to serve as a broader digital hub rather than simply a replacement for physical bank cards.
The application can also accommodate boarding passes, allowing users to access travel documents more easily. It supports digital car keys for certain compatible vehicles, as well as loyalty cards and shopping coupons.
By bringing these different services together, Samsung is seeking to make its devices more central to users' everyday activities, from shopping and travelling to accessing personal benefits.
Gradual Rollout for Compatible Galaxy Devices
The service will become progressively available to owners of compatible Galaxy smartphones and smartwatches, provided they hold eligible bank cards issued by participating institutions.
Users can obtain the application through the relevant digital download platforms and consult Samsung's official website for information about supported devices, availability and activation requirements.
Samsung Wallet's arrival represents another development in Morocco's digital transformation, particularly in the field of financial services. Its long-term impact will depend on the range of compatible devices and banking cards, as well as the willingness of consumers and merchants to adopt mobile payment solutions.
