Over 200 pro-Palestinian activists arrested during protest in London

London, August 9, 2025 — More than 200 demonstrators linked to the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action were arrested in central London on Saturday during a large protest opposing the recent ban of the organization, which the UK government has classified as a terrorist group.

The arrests took place in Parliament Square, where hundreds had gathered following a call to action by the campaign group Defend Our Juries. London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed via social media: “We have now made 200 arrests this afternoon in Parliament Square. Officers continue to make further arrests as necessary.”

Defend Our Juries had announced three days of demonstrations to protest the UK government’s July 5 decision to outlaw Palestine Action, citing alleged involvement in acts of vandalism — including reported damage to a Royal Air Force base. The organization has claimed responsibility in the past for direct action against companies it accuses of supplying arms to Israel.

The protest organizers estimated over 700 participants had assembled by mid-afternoon, accusing the police of preparing for what they described as “the largest mass arrest in their history.” The United Nations has previously criticized the UK’s move to ban the group, calling it a disproportionate restriction on freedom of expression and protest.

The situation remains tense as law enforcement continues to monitor and manage the demonstration in accordance with public safety concerns.
