Audi unveils A2 e-tron as its most efficient electric car yet

Audi has unveiled its all-new A2 e-tron in Paris, introducing a compact electric model designed specifically for the European market and focused heavily on energy efficiency and long-distance driving.

The German automaker describes the A2 e-tron as the most efficient electric vehicle in its history. Designed to combine everyday practicality with low energy consumption, the model can achieve a range of up to 646 kilometers on a single charge, depending on the battery configuration.

The vehicle consumes as little as 12.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, helped by its aerodynamic body and a drag coefficient of just 0.24. Audi says efficiency was a central principle throughout the development process rather than simply an additional performance target.

The A2 e-tron will be offered with three battery capacities — 52, 61 and 84 kWh — alongside four power options ranging from 125 to 240 kW. The top version, equipped with the 84 kWh battery, delivers the maximum range of 646 kilometers and supports fast charging at up to 183 kW.

Under suitable charging conditions, the largest battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes. The entry-level 52 kWh battery can complete the same charging cycle in around 14 minutes, giving customers greater flexibility for shorter journeys and urban use.

Another notable feature is bidirectional charging technology, known as vehicle-to-load (V2L). Depending on the market and local regulations, the system can allow the battery to supply electricity to external devices and, in certain European countries, potentially provide power to a home.

The A2 e-tron will also come with a range of standard driver-assistance technologies, including adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assistance, parking sensors and a rear-view camera. These features are intended to make the compact electric vehicle suitable for both urban driving and longer journeys.

The model also revives the A2 name, which Audi originally introduced around 25 years ago. The first-generation A2 became known for its lightweight construction and efficiency, characteristics that the new electric model seeks to reinterpret for the era of battery-powered mobility.

Audi plans to manufacture the new model at one of its facilities in Germany, with the vehicle aimed primarily at European customers. Orders are scheduled to open in Europe on September 10, while the first deliveries are expected in December 2026.

In Germany, prices are expected to start at around $45,000 for the entry-level version and reach approximately $59,000 for the highest specification. With its combination of aerodynamic design, efficient powertrain technology, multiple battery options and fast charging, the A2 e-tron is intended to strengthen Audi's position in Europe's increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
