ONCF: Train traffic restored after incident on Marrakech–Sidi Bou Othmane line
Train services on Morocco’s southern rail corridor were temporarily disrupted early Sunday following an incident affecting the electrical supply system between Marrakech and Sidi Bou Othmane, according to the National Railways Office (ONCF).
The disruption occurred around dawn after damage was detected on the overhead power line supplying the railway. Initial assessments pointed to an act of vandalism targeting rail infrastructure, which led to the suspension of passenger train traffic on the affected section.
ONCF stated that emergency technical teams were immediately deployed to the site to secure the installations and carry out repair work. Thanks to these efforts, normal train operations were fully restored later in the morning.
The national rail operator apologized to passengers for the inconvenience caused and expressed gratitude for their patience. It also strongly condemned acts of vandalism against railway infrastructure, stressing their impact on public safety and transport reliability.
