Omra 2025: New Health Measures for Pilgrims

In response to increased health safety measures for the upcoming pilgrimages, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced that there are sufficient quantities of meningitis vaccines available at national pharmacies. This vaccination has now become mandatory for anyone wishing to travel to Saudi Arabia, whether for performing the Omra or visiting the holy sites.

Mandatory Vaccination and Certificate Requirement

An official statement from the Ministry confirmed that concerned citizens can obtain the vaccine from pharmacies and visit authorized health centers for vaccination. Upon receiving the vaccine, a certificate, essential for travel, will be issued. These services are also accessible at the Serum and Vaccine Center of the Pasteur Institute, a renowned institution in the field.

Official recommendations suggest that travelers should receive the vaccine at least ten days before their departure, ensuring adequate immunity to prevent meningitis-related health risks. Notably, children under one year old and individuals who have received the vaccine within the last five years are exempt from this requirement, provided they present the appropriate documentation.

A Measure to Protect Public Health

This initiative is part of the new health guidelines implemented by Saudi authorities, effective from February 1, 2025. These measures aim to protect the health of pilgrims while enhancing health security during large religious gatherings. The Ministry urges citizens to strictly follow these instructions to ensure a safe Omra.

To facilitate access to these services, a list of authorized health centers administering the vaccine is available on the official website of the Ministry.
