Munich prepares for large-scale protests during global security summit
German authorities are preparing for large-scale demonstrations as the Munich Security Conference opens next week, with tens of thousands of protesters expected to gather across the Bavarian capital. City officials estimate that up to 120,000 people could take part in various rallies held alongside the high-profile international summit.
The annual conference, which brings together world leaders, foreign ministers, and senior defence and intelligence officials, has long attracted public demonstrations. This year, a significant number of protest events have been registered, reflecting a broad range of political and social concerns.
The largest gathering is expected to take place mid-week, when groups opposing Iran’s governing authorities plan to mobilize a massive rally. Additional demonstrations are scheduled in the city center, including protests critical of the conference itself, which some activists describe as a symbol of global militarization.
Other planned rallies are expected to focus on anti-war messages, civil liberties, and public policy issues. Local authorities have announced heightened security measures and traffic restrictions to ensure public safety and maintain order during the summit.
The Munich Security Conference will host dozens of heads of state and government, as well as foreign and defence ministers, reinforcing the city’s role as a key platform for international dialogue on global security challenges.
