On the occasion of Throne Day, the president of the France-Morocco friendship group in the French Senate, Christian Cambon, highlighted the economic and social transformation undertaken by the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The French senator describes Morocco as a space of stability, security, and prosperity in a regional and international environment facing multiple tensions.

In an interview with MAP, Christian Cambon emphasized the progress made by the Kingdom in several sectors considered strategic for its development. Renewable energies, energy security, water management, education, and the automotive industry are among the areas mentioned by the French official.

According to him, the trajectory followed by Morocco demonstrates its ability to embed public policies within a long-term vision, combining infrastructure development, industrialization, and adaptation to new economic and environmental challenges.

An Economic Transformation Driven by Strategic Sectors

The evolution of Morocco's industrial fabric holds significant importance in Christian Cambon's analysis. In recent years, the Kingdom has strengthened its positioning in high-value-added sectors, particularly the automotive industry, while accelerating its investments in renewable energies.

The issue of water also constitutes a major focus. In the face of climate pressure and the scarcity of water resources, Morocco has initiated various programs aimed at securing its supply and developing new capacities.

Paris and Rabat Strengthen Their Ties

The relations between Morocco and France are experiencing a new dynamic. Christian Cambon attributes this evolution to the desire of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron to build a sustainable partnership between the two countries.

This revival has been notably illustrated by Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Morocco in October 2024, followed by an intensification of political, economic, and parliamentary exchanges.

The French Senate also intends to support this rapprochement. Its France-Morocco friendship group seeks to deepen relations between parliamentary institutions and promote new areas of bilateral cooperation.

The Sahara at the Heart of the New Franco-Moroccan Sequence

Christian Cambon also addressed the evolution of the French position regarding the Sahara. In July 2024, Paris officially stated that the present and future of the Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, considering the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as the basis for achieving a political solution.

The senator recalled the mobilization of the French Senate, particularly under the leadership of its president Gérard Larcher and the France-Morocco friendship group, in favor of clarifying Paris's position.

He now intends to continue his efforts for broader European support for the Moroccan autonomy plan.

A Strategic Relationship Set to Deepen

At a time when geopolitical balances are rapidly evolving in the Mediterranean, Africa, and Europe, the Franco-Moroccan partnership is gradually transcending the traditional framework of bilateral relations.

Industry, energy, security, migration, African development, and institutional cooperation are among the areas where Rabat and Paris seek to strengthen their convergences.
