Morocco-Spain Tourism Alliance: Enticing Moroccan Travelers to Explore Spain's Hidden Gems

The Spanish Tourism Office and Atlas Voyages have joined forces in a strategic partnership aimed at attracting Moroccan travelers to Spain's diverse offerings. This collaboration seeks to introduce Moroccan tourists to some of Spain's lesser-known treasures while fostering cultural ties between the two countries.

The partnership was announced on April 25th by Maria José Gómez, Director of the Spanish Tourism Office in Morocco and France. During her presentation, Gómez highlighted the details of the partnership and noted the most popular Spanish destinations for Moroccan tourists.

On the day of the announcement, Atlas Voyages, Morocco's leading travel agency since 1964, revealed this strategic alliance at its Casablanca travel store. The agency has built a reputation for luxury and high-end travel experiences, and this partnership signifies a significant step in promoting Spain to Moroccan travelers. The collaboration includes a comprehensive co-branding campaign designed to spark interest among Moroccan tourists in Spain's captivating landscapes.

Atlas Voyages aims to attract over 2,000 Moroccan travelers to Spain during the upcoming summer season through a collection of 20 curated travel packages. These offerings cater to families, couples, and groups of friends, promising an unparalleled spring-summer 2024 travel experience.

The initiative uses digital platforms to reach over 10 million Moroccan internet users, encouraging them to explore new Spanish destinations. Gómez stated in an interview with Le360, "Our goal is to redefine the tourist experience of Moroccans in Spain by enticing them to discover new, less-frequented regions that are equally alluring."

Gómez acknowledged that Moroccan tourists often visit familiar Spanish destinations like Costa del Sol and Malaga, with some traveling to Madrid, Barcelona, and parts of Andalusia. To broaden their horizons, she emphasized the need to diversify the tourist experience to meet the evolving interests of Moroccan travelers. "It is crucial to offer diverse experiences that align with the tastes and preferences of Moroccan travelers, including leisure activities, architecture, and culinary delights," Gómez added.

Reflecting on the broader tourism relationship between Spain and Morocco, Gómez mentioned the memorandum signed last year between the tourism ministries of both countries. This agreement promotes innovative practices in tourism management, data sharing, and sustainability within the tourism sector.

Additionally, a specific collaboration with El Corte Inglés, Europe's largest department store chain, has been established to promote shopping-oriented tourism, providing Moroccan travelers with a unique and comprehensive tourist experience in Spain.
