In a remarkable display of talent, Morocco has left an indelible mark on the global culinary stage, securing an impressive 6th place among a pool of 12 elite finalists at the prestigious Bakery World Cup held in Paris from January 21-24.

The Moroccan contingent, under the adept leadership of Rahal Essoulami, President of the Moroccan Culinary Arts Federation, outshone over 500 contestants in a rigorous pre-selection process to earn the privilege of competing in this biennial event, recognized as the pinnacle of global baking competitions.

Guided by the skilled hands of pastry maestro Adil Joukhrane and honed at Morocco’s premier Bakery and Pastry Training Institute (IFMBP), the team captivated judges with their technical finesse, artistic fervor, and proficiency in both traditional and contemporary baking techniques across four distinct categories: bread, viennoiserie, artisan breads, and showpieces.

This stellar performance follows the team’s triumphant first-place finish at the 2023 African Bakery Cup, underscoring Morocco’s ascendance in the international baking arena. While the host French team ultimately claimed the top honors, Morocco distinguished itself by surpassing competitors from Asia, Europe, and the Americas, proudly representing not only the nation but the entire African continent at one of the world’s most esteemed culinary showdowns.

Team leader Rahal Essoulami attributed their success to the forward-thinking vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, stating, “Morocco and Africa have made a resounding mark on the global baking stage.” This noteworthy achievement not only showcases the diversity and exceptional quality of Moroccan gastronomy but also cements the country’s rightful standing among the world’s baking elite.
