Morocco Launches Bold Green Initiative for Sustainable Growth and Job Creation
In a significant stride toward a more sustainable future, the Kingdom of Morocco unveiled a groundbreaking initiative this week—the Green Growth & Jobs Accelerator Project (GGJAP). This ambitious project, spearheaded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and supported by the Danish government, aims to fuel green entrepreneurship and foster sustainable job creation throughout the country.
During a ceremony in Rabat on Wednesday, UNDP Resident Representative Edward Christow commended Morocco's dedication to inclusive and sustainable economic development. He highlighted the pivotal role that Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) play in the Moroccan economy, emphasizing entrepreneurship as a key driver of economic growth. Christow lauded the alignment between GGJAP's objectives and the priorities outlined in the Kingdom's New Development Model.
The four-year, multi-million dollar initiative will provide crucial support for burgeoning green businesses in Morocco, offering coaching, mentoring, and assistance in developing robust business plans. A primary focus will be aiding SMEs in transitioning to more environmentally friendly business practices and technologies.
Covering Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, and Jordan, the accelerator program is a collaborative effort between the UNDP Regional Office for the Arab States, the Danish-Arab Partnership Program, and the UNDP Nordic Representative Office. It forms part of the UNDP's broader initiatives to drive sustainable development and promote green job creation across the Arab world.
The launch of this innovative program solidifies Morocco's standing as a regional leader in the shift toward a green economy. GGJAP is poised to be a game-changer for the country's burgeoning green entrepreneurship ecosystem, promising to accelerate its growth and contribute significantly to sustainable development.
