Morocco's Minister of Culture, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, underscored the pivotal role of cultural connections in solidifying the enduring relationship between Morocco and Senegal during his speech on Monday at Senegal's National Festival of Arts and Cultures.

As this year's distinguished guest at the festival's 12th edition, Bensaid emphasized that the two nations aspire to co-author a unique and cherished history under the leadership of Morocco's King Mohammed VI and Senegal's President Macky Sall.

Bensaid highlighted King Mohammed VI's profound ties with Senegal, a country that has hosted eight official royal visits. The minister reminisced about a historic 2016 speech delivered by the Moroccan monarch in Senegal, commemorating the 41st anniversary of the Green March.

According to Bensaid, the centuries-old cultural heritage shared by both nations serves as a unifying force. He stressed the power of culture "to nurture and raise awareness about our arts and artists, our ancient heritage, and our contemporary creations," thereby asserting an independent cultural identity on the global stage.

The minister also underscored a shared vision to construct an emerging "Afro-Atlantic community of cooperation and emergence, rooted and open, dynamic and true to itself," in collaboration with other neighboring nations.

Furthermore, Bensaid highlighted the increasing role of African youth in shaping the continent's future. He pointed out their rising educational achievements, open-minded perspectives, and a strong sense of dignity and cultural pride.

"This dignity is derived, and will increasingly be derived in the future, from their culture, heritage, and creations," stated Bensaid.

With vibrant cultural connections weaving through their past and propelling their development, Morocco and Senegal aim to sustain their shared destiny, rooted in generations of history. Their strategic alliance solidifies cooperation toward a thriving emerging Africa that remains firmly anchored in its heritage while embracing new possibilities.
