Bridging Economies: Quebec and Morocco Forge New Paths for Collaboration

MONTRÉAL, October 21, 2024, In a significant move to bolster economic ties, the Council of Employers of Quebec (CPQ) and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) have launched a week-long initiative welcoming a delegation of Moroccan entrepreneurs to Quebec. This visit aims to explore collaborative opportunities and expand business ventures between the two regions.

Led by Mr. Chakib ALJ, President of CGEM, the delegation will engage with key economic players and tour various esteemed companies, focusing on sectors such as aerospace, agri-food, and artificial intelligence. This initiative follows a partnership agreement signed in May in Casablanca, which aims to strengthen business relations between Quebec and Morocco.

Mr. Karl BLACKBURN, President and CEO of CPQ, emphasized the potential for growth in commercial relations, stating, “We have yet to reach our full potential in trade between Quebec and Morocco. The arrival of these Moroccan entrepreneurs showcases a mutual interest in evolving our economic landscape and enhancing exchanges.”

The itinerary includes visits to Bombardier’s facilities, the Port of Quebec, and Optel, as well as an exploration of quantum technology in Sherbrooke. Accompanying the Moroccan entrepreneurs will be Mr. BLACKBURN and Ms. Danièle HENKEL, the CPQ’s ambassador for economic Francophonie. The diverse group represents various sectors including finance, chemistry, agri-food, and services.

“This mission marks a pivotal first step in our ongoing efforts to deepen economic ties between Morocco and Canada,” stated Mr. Chakib ALJ. “Through this initiative, we aspire to create commercial synergies and investment opportunities particularly in agri-food, aerospace, and emerging technologies while enhancing understanding of Morocco’s business climate and its numerous opportunities.”

Looking ahead, CPQ plans to visit Morocco in 2025 to continue fostering these economic collaborations.

The Moroccan delegation comprises influential figures such as Mr. Chakib ALJ; Ms. Ghita LAHLOU, Vice-President of CGEM; Mr. Abdou DIOP; Mr. Rafik LAHLOU; Mr. Omar CHERKAOUI; Ms. Marwa TELLAL; Mr. Ali MEHREZ; and Mr. Anwar RADI among others from various sectors.

This initiative not only symbolizes a commitment to mutual growth but also highlights the increasing importance of international partnerships in today’s interconnected economy.
