Morocco-Brazil: FRMF provides update on the health of the Atlas Lions
As the highly anticipated clash between Morocco and Brazil approaches, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has released an official statement regarding the physical condition of the Atlas Lions ahead of their opening match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Moroccan national team is preparing for a major challenge against Brazil, coached by Carlo Ancelotti. This opening fixture is expected to set the tone for Morocco’s campaign, as fans eagerly await updates on player availability and squad fitness.
In its communication, the FRMF aimed to reassure supporters about the overall health of the squad. The federation confirmed that medical examinations carried out in recent days have provided clarity on several key cases within the team.
One of the most significant concerns involves Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. Medical reports indicate that he is suffering from a right knee sprain combined with a high-grade injury to the internal lateral ligament. As a result, he will not be able to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Another key player under medical supervision is Nayef Aguerd. According to the federation, his rehabilitation process, which began prior to the tournament, is progressing positively. However, despite encouraging improvement, the recovery timeline does not allow him to return to full competitive readiness in time for the World Cup under optimal conditions.
Following these developments, the FRMF has officially announced that Amine Sbaï and Marwane Saâdane will replace the two injured players in the final squad list of 26 players representing Morocco.
The federation concluded its statement by expressing full support for the injured players and wishing them a swift recovery. It also emphasized that both Ezzalzouli and Aguerd will remain connected to the national team and continue to support their teammates during this important international campaign.
