Moroccan universities gain recognition in the CWUR 2026 global rankings

Morocco has strengthened its presence in international higher education rankings, with six universities featured in the 2026 edition of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) Global 2000 list. The achievement reflects the growing visibility of Moroccan universities on the global academic stage and highlights ongoing efforts to improve research, teaching quality, and international competitiveness.

The CWUR ranking evaluates universities using several key indicators, including quality of education, graduate employability, faculty excellence, and research performance. These criteria aim to provide a comprehensive assessment of institutions and their contribution to knowledge creation and human capital development.

Leading the Moroccan institutions included in the ranking is Mohammed V University in Rabat, followed by Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech and Hassan II University in Casablanca. Other universities recognized in the ranking include Mohammed Premier University in Oujda, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez.

One of the most notable developments in this year's ranking is the inclusion of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. Despite being a relatively young institution, it has rapidly established a reputation for research and innovation through international partnerships, scientific publications, and investments in advanced academic programs.

The growing representation of Moroccan universities demonstrates progress in research productivity and academic visibility. The latest CWUR results nevertheless represent a positive signal for Morocco's higher education sector. As universities continue to expand their global engagement and research capabilities, the country is gradually reinforcing its position as an emerging academic and scientific hub in Africa and the broader Mediterranean region.
