Moroccan surfer Ramzi Boukhiam has cemented his name in the annals of surfing history by clinching the silver medal at the recent International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico. This remarkable achievement marks the first-ever medal earned by a Moroccan athlete in this esteemed global surfing competition.

In a fiercely contested final held from February 23rd to March 3rd, Boukhiam went head-to-head with some of the world's foremost surfing talents. Despite being bested by Brazilian sensation Gabriel Medina, who claimed the gold, Boukhiam's outstanding performance secured him a well-deserved second-place finish on the podium. French surfer Kauli Vaast claimed the third spot, completing the medal standings.

Beyond the prestige of standing atop the podium, Boukhiam's silver medal also earned him a berth in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, solidifying his status as a formidable contender on surfing's grandest stages. This will mark his second consecutive appearance in the Olympics, having represented Morocco in Tokyo 2020.

At 30 years old, Boukhiam has made a triumphant comeback to elite professional surfing following injuries that sidelined him earlier in the year. Having secured his place in the 2024 Championship Tour through impressive showings in last season's Challenger Series, he is poised to once again showcase his prowess against the world's elite. With a proven ability to excel on surfing's grandest occasions, Boukhiam undoubtedly remains one to watch as he continues to elevate Morocco's presence in the global surfing arena.
