The 34th edition of the International Marrakech Marathon (MIM) is scheduled for January 28th, underscoring Morocco's prowess as a global hub for running enthusiasts. Under the auspices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the event draws more than 13,000 athletes from 70 nations to compete on Marrakech's picturesque roads.

Organized collaboratively by the Grand Atlas Association, the Moroccan Athletics Federation, the Wilaya of Marrakech-Safi, and the Mechouar commune, MIM has firmly established itself as Africa's foremost marathon. Recognized as #1 on the continent by World Athletics and holding the 25th spot globally, the marathon offers Olympic qualification for the 2024 Paris Games. Director Mohammed Knidri emphasizes, "This edition provides a significant opportunity for both Moroccan and international runners striving to meet Olympic qualification standards."

Distinguished athletes, such as Kenyan luminaries Sami Kituana and Nicholas Kerua, along with Ethiopia's Hirbo Shanno Shar, are set to challenge themselves on the IAAF Gold Label course. On the women's front, Mizeret Hailo Debele from Ethiopia and Kenya's Margarit Igay will vie for the women's record. Notable local favorites, including Omar Ait Shetachen and Ruqaya Al-Qaim, will be part of a field featuring global elites.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the event serves as a showcase for Marrakech's rich cultural heritage. Runners will traverse sections paying homage to Morocco's history and landscapes. In alignment with the kingdom's commitment to environmental stewardship, a car-free day is planned to underscore sustainability. Winners stand to claim a total prize money pool exceeding $100,000.

With over three decades of growth, the Marrakech Marathon has firmly entrenched itself as one of the sport's premier annual events. On January 28th, the red city will once again transform into a vibrant stage, hosting the world's elite distance runners.
