Moroccan Customs Thwarts Smuggling of Large Quantity of Smartphones at Bab Sebta
Customs elements at the Bab Sebta crossing point in Morocco succeeded in thwarting a smuggling operation of a large quantity of new smartphones, valued at over 530,000 DH (Moroccan dirhams), on Friday night.
This operation resulted in the seizure of 270 smartphones intended to be introduced into the national market without prior declaration to the Customs and Indirect Tax Administration, the Customs reported. A search of a vehicle led to the discovery of these devices, which were hidden among luggage and in bags intended for food products, the Customs added.
The suspect, a resident of Sebta, was presented to the judicial police of M'diq for further investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor's office.
This success in combating smuggling reinforces the efforts of the Moroccan authorities to protect the national market and ensure compliance with customs regulations.
