Moroccan Airports Set New Passenger Record: Over 24.7 Million Travelers by End of November
In a remarkable achievement, Moroccan airports have witnessed a surge in passenger traffic, with a staggering figure of 24,737,734 passengers recorded until the end of November. This represents a notable 7% increase compared to the same period in 2019 and an impressive 34% growth compared to 2022, as reported by the National Airports Authority (ONDA).
This upward trajectory in passenger numbers is evident across several airports, which have experienced significant spikes in traffic compared to 2019. Noteworthy examples include Tétouan Airport with a remarkable growth of 506%, followed by Essaouira at 54%, Tanger at 42%, Nador at 34%, Oujda at 33%, Fès at 22%, and Agadir at 13%. The resurgence of numerous flights that were suspended during the pandemic, coupled with the establishment of new air routes, has been instrumental in driving these impressive figures.
Mohammed V Airport, in particular, has displayed remarkable resilience during these first eleven months, exhibiting an impressive 95% recovery rate compared to the same period in 2019, welcoming a total of 8,970,014 passengers.
Turning to international traffic in November, it continued its upward trajectory by recording a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2019 and a remarkable 35% surge compared to 2022, with a total of 22,298,582 passengers. Notably, air traffic between Morocco and Europe soared, with an impressive 18,390,599 passengers, representing a substantial 14% rise compared to 2019 and a remarkable 34% surge compared to 2022.
The growth trend extends to other regions as well, with North America and Africa experiencing respective growth rates of 17% and 7% during the first eleven months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2019.
For the month of November, Moroccan airports warmly welcomed 2,108,938 passengers, marking an approximate 6% increase compared to the same month in 2019 and an encouraging 10% rise compared to November 2022.
