LOEWE Celebrates Moroccan Artisanal Heritage, Pledges Support Amidst Crisis
LOEWE, the renowned Spanish luxury house, recently used social media to honor the invaluable contributions of Moroccan artisans and their timeless craftsmanship. The brand's post, a captivating display of exquisite handbags and traditional Moroccan elements, highlighted its long-standing collaboration with artisans from North Africa.
"Our basket bags are made using raffia and iraca palm leaves, cultivated and handwoven by artisans in Morocco, Madagascar, and Colombia, then hand-finished in our Spanish atelier," read the Instagram post. The accompanying images showcased LOEWE's signature woven accessories, intricate zellige tilework, and the iconic "hadda" knife, a staple in Moroccan households.
But LOEWE's tribute went beyond recognizing the artisans' skills. In a philanthropic move, the brand pledged to donate a portion of the proceeds from its basket bag sales to support humanitarian relief in the communities affected by the devastating 2023 earthquake in central Morocco.
"For every basket bag sold, LOEWE will make a donation to the local communities who weave them," the brand announced, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the communities that contribute to its success.
Founded in 1846 in Madrid, LOEWE is renowned for its high-end leather goods, ready-to-wear fashion, and accessories, each reflecting the brand's unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and timeless elegance. With this initiative, the luxury house aims to make a tangible impact, extending its philanthropic reach to provide university scholarships in Colombia and establish craft training schools in Madagascar.
Moroccan artisans have been integral to LOEWE's signature woven pieces, their craftsmanship drawing from centuries-old traditions that define the cultural landscape of the region. Their artistry encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including woodworking, metalwork, ceramics, textiles, and the renowned leatherwork that has produced exquisite handcrafted goods like bags, shoes, and traditional Moroccan slippers.
As LOEWE celebrates the heritage and artistry of Moroccan artisans, it also extends a compassionate hand to the communities that have faced a natural disaster. Through this initiative, the luxury brand not only honors the rich cultural tapestry woven by these skilled craftspeople but also underscores its commitment to uplifting and supporting the communities that have played a crucial role in its journey.
