In a time-honored tradition, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the esteemed custodian of the Moroccan throne, is set to lead the sacred Eid Al-Adha prayers at the renowned Hassan II Mosque in the historic city of Tetouan. This solemn occasion, scheduled for Monday, June 17, 2024, marks one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar, celebrating faith, sacrifice, and unity.

The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol, and Chancellery has announced that the King, revered as the Commander of the Faithful, will preside over the Eid Al-Adha prayers, commencing at 10:30 a.m. This momentous event will be broadcast live on both radio and television, allowing the nation to partake in the spiritual significance of the occasion.

Eid Al-Adha, the "Festival of Sacrifice," holds deep reverence in the Islamic faith, commemorating the unwavering devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to Allah as he prepared to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience. This profound act of submission has become a cornerstone of the Eid Al-Adha celebrations, symbolizing the willingness to make sacrifices in accordance with one's beliefs.

Throughout Morocco, the festivities of Eid Al-Adha are marked by a vibrant tapestry of traditions. Families adorn themselves in traditional garments, such as the elegant jellaba and balgha, while children eagerly await new outfits to mark the occasion. On the morning of Eid, worshippers of all ages converge at mosques or open-air prayer areas known as musallas, united in their devotion.

Central to the observance of Eid Al-Adha is the ritualistic sacrifice of livestock, typically a sheep, goat, or cow. This act holds profound symbolic significance, representing the willingness to make sacrifices in the name of faith and obedience. Following the sacrificial ritual, families gather to partake in sumptuous feasts, exchanging warm embraces and greetings of "Eid Mubarak," wishing each other a blessed Eid.

The spirit of generosity and compassion permeates the air, as gift-giving to children and visits to friends and loved ones become cherished aspects of the celebrations. This year's Eid Al-Adha promises to be a truly remarkable occasion, with the revered King Mohammed VI leading the faithful in prayer at the iconic Hassan II Mosque in Tetouan, a testament to the enduring traditions and spiritual fabric of the Moroccan nation.
