His Majesty King Mohammed VI Ushers in a New Era of International Support for Morocco's Sahara Position
In a compelling address marking the opening of the legislative year, His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco emphasized the increasing international support for the kingdom’s territorial integrity, particularly regarding the Sahara region. The monarch's speech, delivered with characteristic determination, highlighted Morocco's transition from a reactive approach to a proactive strategy concerning the longstanding dispute.
His Majesty reaffirmed the country’s commitment to maintaining sovereignty over its southern provinces, citing recent diplomatic successes that have strengthened Morocco's stance. He specifically praised France’s unequivocal support, quoting French President Emmanuel Macron’s assertion that “the present and future of Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.” This endorsement from France, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, was celebrated by His Majesty as a victory of “justice and legitimacy,” reinforcing Morocco’s historical claims. He expressed gratitude to President Macron for this clear affirmation, which resonated with enthusiastic applause from the attending parliamentarians.
King Mohammed VI also acknowledged the backing of other crucial allies, including the United States and various Arab and African nations. The speech followed a contentious ruling by the European Court of Justice regarding EU-Morocco agreements.
