Haliopolis Welcomes New 40 Million Dirham Seafood Processing Plant

Amid the ongoing expansion of the thriving Haliopolis industrial park in Agadir, boasting an impressive occupancy rate exceeding 90% in its initial 75-hectare phase, a new seafood processing plant is poised to join the burgeoning hub. Quality Sea Product, a family-owned SME specializing in cephalopods and pelagic fish, has secured a plot spanning several thousand square meters within the park's premises, paving the way for the construction of a state-of-the-art frozen seafood processing facility.

With an initial investment of 40 million dirhams, a figure that is expected to rise in subsequent phases, Quality Sea Product's ambitious project will commence with a focus on cephalopods and pelagic species. However, the company's vision extends beyond its initial scope, with plans to establish an international-standard freezing unit in the near future.

Slated for inauguration in 2025, the new plant is poised to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for over 100 individuals, predominantly women, contributing to the region's economic development and empowerment. A significant portion of the plant's output, including a substantial share of cephalopod products, will be geared towards export markets, further bolstering Morocco's seafood trade.

Haliopolis, inaugurated in 2010, was initially conceived as a dedicated hub for seafood processing, reflecting the sector's paramount importance in the Souss-Massa region, where it contributes more than 20% to the regional GDP. However, due to delays in the valorization of the park's 150-hectare expanse, MedZ, the subsidiary of CDG Développement responsible for managing and operating activity zones, made the strategic decision to broaden the park's scope, welcoming enterprises from other agri-food sectors.

With the addition of Quality Sea Product's cutting-edge facility, Haliopolis solidifies its position as a thriving hub for seafood processing and innovation. The new plant not only promises to reinvigorate the region's seafood industry but also serves as a testament to the park's continued attractiveness for investors seeking a prime location to establish their operations.

As Haliopolis continues to evolve and expand, the arrival of Quality Sea Product's state-of-the-art facility represents a significant milestone, underscoring the park's commitment to fostering economic growth, promoting sustainable practices, and positioning Morocco as a prominent player in the global seafood market.
