Florida woman charged after alleged attack on elderly Trump supporter

A woman from Florida is facing multiple charges following an incident where she allegedly assaulted a 72-year-old man wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat. The altercation occurred earlier this week at Northeast Park and Paw Place in Largo, Florida.

Laura Garrett, 33, was apprehended by the Largo Police Department on Tuesday. She faces charges including battery on a person over 65, battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest without violence, as documented in the records from Pinellas County Jail.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 13 Tampa Bay, Garrett approached the unidentified man to inquire about his support for President Donald Trump. The conversation escalated into an argument, during which Garrett reportedly poured a can of beverage over the victim's head and struck him on the back of the head and shoulder with the can. Garrett, however, denied using the can as a weapon.

Following the alleged attack, Garrett attempted to flee the scene by jumping a fence. She was later located by police, where she reportedly resisted arrest. The police report indicates that she fought with officers during the arrest process; at one point, she dropped to the ground and wrapped her legs around an officer, causing him to fall and sustain a bruise to his knee.

Garrett was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Tuesday evening but was released the following night.
