Fatima Zibouh named Brussels leader of the year

Fatima Zibouh, a Belgian-Moroccan political scientist and social entrepreneur, has been honored as "Brussels Leader of the Year" by a prominent Belgian publication. The magazine annually recognizes inspiring leaders who make a significant impact on their communities through the "Lobby Awards."

Zibouh, who plays a key role in Brussels' bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2030, was selected for her dedication to giving a voice to marginalized groups, as well as her commitment to fostering connections across diverse cultural and social spheres. Her work has focused on bridging cultural divides and creating synergies between various communities.

The award's jury expressed their confidence in Zibouh’s efforts, particularly regarding her leadership in the Brussels 2030 initiative, which aims to enhance both national and international recognition for the city. François Didisheim, the magazine's founder, noted that Zibouh’s immigrant background adds a meaningful dimension to the award, symbolizing the city's development and its inclusive future.

For Zibouh, this recognition represents over two decades of commitment to Brussels and Belgium. She also views the award as a tribute to her grandparents and parents, who immigrated from Morocco. Reflecting on the recent 60th anniversary of the bilateral agreement between Belgium and Morocco, she emphasized the importance of acknowledging the contributions of the immigrant community in shaping society and strengthening connections among diverse groups.

Alongside Zibouh, other Belgian personalities were celebrated for their contributions in various fields, including heptathlete Nafissatou Thiam and cyclist Remco Evenepoel, who received the "Proftivism" award for their positive influence and lifestyle. Other honors were given for leadership, economic achievements, artistic contributions, innovation, and emerging talents.
