Doha Exhibition Highlights Morocco's Amazigh Jewelry Heritage
The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar, currently hosts an exhibition spotlighting the rich Amazigh (Berber) heritage of Morocco. Part of the Qatar-Morocco Cultural Year 2024, this exhibition presents the Royal Palace Berber Jewelry collection, marking the first time these cherished artifacts have been displayed outside Morocco.
Organizers emphasize the exhibition's remarkable success, drawing significant attention and admiration from visitors. The collection encompasses 200 pieces of historical and cultural significance, representing diverse regions and ethnic groups of Morocco, spanning from the Atlas Mountains to the Southern provinces.
Adel El Fakir, Director-General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT) and General Commissioner of the Qatar-Morocco Cultural Year 2024, expressed, "This collection, which fills Moroccans in Qatar with pride, comprises 200 pieces of historical and cultural significance, representing various regions and ethnic groups of Morocco, from the Atlas Mountains to the Southern provinces."
Presented by the National Museum Foundation of Morocco in collaboration with the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, the exhibition offers attendees a comprehensive cultural experience. Alongside the stunning jewelry collection, visitors can enjoy traditional Moroccan music performances, henna tattoo demonstrations, and oil paintings inspired by the beauty of Amazigh jewelry.
The event underscores the deep historical and cultural bonds between Morocco and Qatar, nurturing mutual understanding and appreciation between the two nations. Running until May 20, the exhibition presents a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Moroccan Amazigh heritage.
