The U.S. government is evaluating the potential national security risks linked to DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company that has reportedly made a significant breakthrough. According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, U.S. officials are investigating the implications of the new AI technology. This follows the U.S. Navy’s decision to ban its personnel from using DeepSeek’s apps, citing security and ethical concerns. The move has raised alarms within the U.S. tech industry, with U.S. President Donald Trump calling the situation a wake-up call for American innovation.

The Navy's warning highlighted potential risks regarding the model’s origins and usage. Meanwhile, David Sacks, the White House's newly appointed AI and crypto czar, suggested that DeepSeek may have utilized knowledge distillation to improve its models, drawing on technologies developed by U.S.-based OpenAI.
