Celebrating Strategic Ties: Morocco and Brazil Strengthen Partnership on Throne Day

In a grand celebration marking the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI's accession to the throne, Morocco and Brazil underscored their robust and strategic partnership. The event, hosted by the Moroccan Embassy in Brasília, drew distinguished Brazilian figures from various sectors, reinforcing the deep historical and multifaceted ties between the two nations.

A Night of Diplomacy and Celebration

The prestigious reception saw the attendance of key Brazilian officials, including Antonio Augusto Martins Cesar, Director of the Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside members of the diplomatic corps and the Moroccan community in Brazil.

Moroccan Ambassador to Brazil, Nabil Adghoghi, highlighted the "strategic potential" of the Morocco-Brazil partnership, emphasizing pivotal areas such as food security, the green economy, and maritime and air transport. Adghoghi outlined several significant events on the 2024 bilateral agenda, including the opening of the Moroccan National Tourism Office in São Paulo, the third political consultations in Brasília, and the Brazil-Morocco Business Forum slated for December.

**Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation**

Key initiatives were also announced, such as the resumption of the Casablanca-São Paulo flight and a memorandum of understanding between the Moroccan National Police and the Brazilian Federal Police to enhance security cooperation. The ambassador also spotlighted the Royal Atlantic Initiative, aiming to improve connectivity for Sahel countries with various Atlantic African port platforms.

Adghoghi noted that the completion of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline would bolster energy connectivity among gas-producing nations, support regional electricity market integration, and benefit over 400 million people. Additionally, the strategic Tanger-Med port, Africa's largest and most competitive maritime hub, is positioning itself as a crucial node for Atlantic maritime corridors.

**A Commitment to Global Causes**

In his Throne Day speech, King Mohammed VI reaffirmed Morocco's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. The monarch called for international efforts to seek a definitive resolution to the conflict, emphasizing that ending the war in Gaza must coincide with opening political prospects conducive to a just and lasting peace in the region.

King Mohammed VI also highlighted Morocco's bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, with major infrastructure projects underway to attract 26 million tourists.

**Optimism for the Future**

Reflecting on his recent visit to Morocco, Martins Cesar praised the country's economic progress, comprehensive reforms, and vibrant society. He expressed strong optimism about the future of Morocco-Brazil relations, believing that the partnership will benefit both nations, enriched by their diverse identities.

Martins Cesar noted the growing interest among Brazilian businessmen and tourists in Morocco, which will be further enhanced by the resumption of the direct Casablanca-São Paulo flight in December.

In 2023, a group of Brazilian lawmakers called for a stronger strategic partnership between Brazil and Morocco. The motion, signed by 37 senators and 14 federal deputies, was addressed to Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, garnering support from leaders across the political spectrum.

As Morocco and Brazil continue to deepen their ties, the celebration of Throne Day stands as a testament to the enduring and evolving partnership between the two nations, promising a future of shared growth and mutual benefit.
