Casablanca Stock Exchange Ushers in New Era with Appointment of Veteran Banker as Chairman
The Casablanca Stock Exchange (CSE) has entered a new phase of leadership with the appointment of Brahim Benjelloun Touimi as Chairman of the Board of Directors. This strategic move, approved by the board on October 14, marks the beginning of a two-year term that promises to shape the future of Morocco's primary stock market.
Touimi, currently serving as the Deputy CEO of BANK OF AFRICA, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. With a doctorate in Money, Finance, and Banking from the University of Paris I Pantheon Sorbonne, he has established himself as a prominent figure in the financial sector. His extensive career spans over three decades, beginning in the financial markets of France before joining BMCE Bank in 1990.
The new chairman's appointment follows the notable tenure of Kamal Mokdad, who led the CSE since June 2020. Under Mokdad's guidance, the exchange implemented a strategic roadmap aimed at enhancing its competitiveness and appeal to both local and international investors. Although Mokdad's term has concluded, he will continue to contribute to the board as a representative of the Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP), ensuring a smooth transition and continuity in governance.
Touimi's leadership extends beyond his role at BANK OF AFRICA. He is actively involved in various governance positions across several institutions, including the Group's European banking entities and numerous Moroccan companies such as RMA Insurance and O Capital Group. His pioneering efforts at BMCE Bank established critical subsidiaries focused on stock brokerage and asset management, furthering the development of mutual funds within the Casablanca Stock Exchange.
As the new Chairman, Touimi faces the challenge of navigating a rapidly evolving market characterized by digital innovation and shifting investor behaviors. His extensive background positions him well to lead the exchange into its next phase, as it seeks to solidify its status as a key player in the region's financial landscape.
Beyond his professional achievements, Touimi demonstrates a commitment to social responsibility through his role as a board member of the BMCE Bank Foundation. This organization focuses on educational initiatives and environmental preservation, reflecting a holistic approach to leadership that balances financial acumen with community welfare.
The appointment of Brahim Benjelloun Touimi to the helm of the Casablanca Stock Exchange signals a new chapter in Morocco's financial sector. With his diverse experience and strategic vision, stakeholders are optimistic about the potential for growth and innovation in the country's capital markets. As the CSE continues to evolve, all eyes will be on Touimi to steer the exchange towards greater regional and international prominence.
