British tourist dies after 20ft fall from Lanzarote hotel balcony
A British tourist has died after falling about 20 feet from a hotel balcony in Lanzarote, one of Spain’s Canary Islands, while another man remains in critical condition following the collapse of a railing in the resort town of Costa Teguise.
According to local reports, the two men, aged 56 and 54, fell from the balcony in the early hours of Saturday morning when the metal railing gave way. Emergency services were called around 1:30 a.m.
The 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second man was rushed to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where he remains in intensive care.
The Spanish Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the hotel’s safety standards and the maintenance of the balcony structure. Authorities have not yet released the name of the hotel, and it is unclear whether the two British men were related or traveling together.
