Algeria's Bold Commitment to Gaza: President Tebboune's Promise of Aid and Support

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has announced plans to send military and humanitarian assistance to Gaza, contingent on Egypt opening its borders. This pledge underscores Algeria's enduring support for the Palestinian cause.

During an August 18 rally in Constantine, ahead of the September 7 election, Tebboune highlighted Algeria's readiness to aid Gaza amid ongoing conflict with Israeli forces.

"If Allah wills the borders to open, we are prepared," Tebboune affirmed.

He detailed plans to deploy Algerian troops to assist in rebuilding efforts, including setting up medical facilities swiftly.

"Once allowed entry, we will construct three hospitals in 20 days and dispatch hundreds of doctors to restore what has been destroyed," Tebboune stated, reinforcing Algeria’s commitment to Palestine.

Since hostilities erupted on October 7, Algeria has shown unwavering solidarity with Gaza, viewing it as a symbol of resistance.

In May, Algeria proposed a UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Rafah and Gaza. Although blocked by the United States, Algeria continues to champion Palestinian rights at the UN.

Algeria's support for Palestine is deeply rooted in its own history of resisting French colonialism. Having endured a brutal fight for independence, Algeria has long aligned with liberation movements globally, offering support to groups like the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) since the 1960s.
