Aisne: Man charged with voluntary homicide and jailed after killing his mother
A 34-year-old man has been indicted and placed in pre-trial detention after allegedly killing his 72-year-old mother with a knife in Hirson, in the Aisne département, the Laon prosecutor’s office announced on Friday.
According to the prosecution, he is also being charged with attempted voluntary homicide against his father, as well as home intrusion and intentional violence. An investigating judge has been appointed to oversee the case.
The suspect is believed to have attacked both parents before fleeing. He reportedly took refuge in the home of a neighbouring resident, who managed to escape despite suffering minor injuries. Police surrounded the house, during which the man climbed onto the roof armed with two knives. After several hours of negotiation, he surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.
Authorities noted that the suspect had no prior criminal record.
