Acid Attack at Westminster Academy: A Distressing Incident Leaves Girl Hospitalized with Severe Injuries
A 14-year-old girl is facing potentially life-altering injuries following a suspected acid attack outside Westminster Academy in west London. The incident, which occurred on Monday afternoon, also injured a teacher and another student, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
At approximately 4:42 PM, police on patrol were alerted by school staff on Alfred Road. Paramedics and the London Fire Brigade quickly arrived at the scene to assist the victims. The academy confirmed that the injuries were caused by an "acid-like corrosive substance" thrown during the incident.
The girl remains hospitalized with serious injuries, while a 16-year-old boy is also receiving treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. A 27-year-old woman involved in the incident has since been discharged from the hospital. Additionally, two police officers were taken to the hospital as a precaution after feeling unwell during their response.
Detective Chief Inspector Dean Purvis, who is overseeing the investigation, commended a staff member who provided first aid to the victims but sustained injuries in the process. He noted that while the extent of the girl's injuries is still being assessed, they are currently treated as life-changing. The suspect, described as a tall, slim Black male wearing dark clothing and possibly obscured by a mask or balaclava, fled the scene on an e-scooter.
As investigations continue, police have established multiple crime scenes and are conducting tests on the substance believed to be acidic. No arrests have been made yet, but authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
