Moroccan drivers should prepare for challenging conditions this weekend as the Equipment and Water Ministry issues a stern travel advisory for several northern and southern provinces. Citing an alert from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the ministry warns that severe winds, coupled with blown sand, may lead to hazardous driving conditions from Friday night through Sunday.

In an urgent statement, the ministry strongly advises drivers to postpone their travel plans until early next week when the dust is expected to settle. The affected regions encompass Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Tetouan, Mdiq-Fnideq, Sidi Ifni, Tantan, Guelmim, Assa-Zag, and Esmara, where visibility on roads and highways is anticipated to significantly decrease or disappear entirely during the storms.

While expressing regret for any inconvenience caused, ministry officials underscore the critical importance of "caution and vigilance due to reduced or lack of visibility." To aid affected travelers, the ministry provides contact details for the Emergency Center of the General Directorate of Roads and the call center for Autoroutes du Maroc.

As Moroccans brace for the weekend, drivers are urged to heed the ministry's warning rather than confront potentially hazardous roads. Although the dust storms may pass quickly, exercising caution now can prevent accidents as windswept sand obscures the path forward.
