In a significant development, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch announced today that approximately one million families, totaling 3.5 million individuals, who meet the eligibility criteria for the Unified Social Register, will begin receiving the first installment of direct social assistance from December 28 onwards.

During the opening of the Government Council meeting, Akhannouch elaborated on the financial aid, emphasizing that it will amount to a minimum of 500 dirhams per family, regardless of its composition. These families had submitted their applications before the December 10 deadline, and their files have been duly processed.

For the remaining families who applied after the specified date, the disbursement of their December and January payments will take place by the end of the following month. Akhannouch also highlighted that families meeting the eligibility threshold can continue submitting their applications, ensuring their access to future direct social support.

Commending the government's prompt initiation of the initial tranches of direct social assistance for eligible families this week, Akhannouch revealed that more than 1.9 million applications have been received through the online portal since its launch at the beginning of December. Notably, this number continues to rise daily.

Furthermore, Akhannouch emphasized that the year 2023 signifies a critical juncture in the implementation of "Social State" projects, which aim to secure the necessary financial resources for their sustainability. These projects encompass the expansion of mandatory health insurance, direct social aid for impoverished or vulnerable families, and assistance for primary housing acquisition.

Addressing the education system reform, Akhannouch asserted that its success hinges upon strengthening the role and position of teachers. To this end, significant efforts have been made to foster a climate of trust with this group. Notably, the government reached an agreement on December 10, resulting in a substantial net increase in the monthly salary of teachers. This historic salary hike of a minimum of 1,500 dirhams, which will cost the state over 10 billion dirhams annually, demonstrates the government's commitment to improving the financial well-being of educators.

Moreover, Akhannouch underscored the government's effective response to the challenges posed by the Al Haouz earthquake, which were transformed into opportunities under the guidance of the High Royal Instructions. The government successfully oversaw the reconstruction and development operations in the affected provinces, a testament to the nation's resilience in the face of diverse challenges.

As Morocco progresses towards a more inclusive and supportive society, the direct social assistance program serves as a vital resource to uplift vulnerable families and ensure their well-being. With the government's unwavering commitment and the continued involvement of eligible families, the path to a stronger welfare system and a brighter future for all Moroccans becomes increasingly tangible.
