In a joint counterterrorism operation, security forces in Morocco and Spain successfully dismantled an extremist network. The collaboration involved Morocco's intelligence agency, the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), and Spain's intelligence agency, the General Commissariat for Information, working together to apprehend suspects associated with terrorist organizations.

On Tuesday, the DGST announced the arrest of an extremist activist in the Nador region of Morocco. Simultaneously, Spanish authorities detained several individuals in the city of Melilla, including a former terrorism detainee who had previously joined jihadist groups operating in the Sahel region of Africa.

Preliminary investigations unveiled that the arrested individuals actively promoted extremist ideologies and were involved in recruiting others to join terrorist causes. The suspect apprehended in Morocco is set to face prosecution by counterterrorism authorities as police work to ascertain potential links to attack plots.

This collaborative takedown exemplifies the robust coordination between Moroccan and Spanish intelligence in addressing common terrorist threats. Officials are actively working to unravel connections between extremist cells located in the two countries. These latest arrests underscore the commitment of the Morocco-Spain security partnership in combating radicalization and preventing terrorist violence.
