The vibrant Moroccan city of Marrakech has been bestowed with the prestigious title of Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for 2024 by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). This distinguished recognition not only amplifies Morocco's cultural richness but also offers a global platform to showcase its heritage.

Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, expressed the significance of this accolade during a recent press conference, stating, "The selection of Marrakech underscores our commitment to preserving our culture, heritage, and authenticity while embracing contemporary influences."

To commemorate Marrakech's tenure as the epicenter of Islamic culture, a year-long array of cultural, artistic, and intellectual events will unfold across the city, meticulously organized in collaboration with its dynamic cultural civil society organizations.

Minister Bensaid stressed the pivotal role of local intellectuals and artists in shaping the success of this cultural extravaganza, emphasizing the need for grassroots involvement. "The active participation of our community will not only solidify Marrakech's cultural significance domestically but also enhance its global prominence," he remarked.

Building on the triumph of Rabat's analogous recognition last year, authorities aspire to establish the cultural capital designation as an enduring tradition. Residents and visitors are warmly invited to immerse themselves in the diverse array of artistic performances and exhibitions meticulously curated to celebrate Marrakech's cultural opulence.
