Morocco Approaches Two-Year Milestone in Successfully Managing the COVID-19 Pandemic
Morocco's health ministry reported 86 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, marking nearly two years of effective pandemic management within the North African nation. The latest data reveals a positivity rate of just 4% across the kingdom.
Since the identification of its first case in March 2020, Morocco has recorded over 1.2 million total infections. The COVID-19 death toll stands at 16,301, with a case fatality rate of 1.3%. Presently, only 157 active cases remain.
Vaccination efforts persist, with nearly 25 million Moroccans having received an initial dose and over 23 million considered fully vaccinated. Approximately 7 million individuals have received a third booster shot, and more than 60,000 have received a fourth dose.
The regions of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Souss-Massa accounted for nearly two-thirds of the new cases last week, while lower infection rates remained steady across Morocco's remaining regions.
Health officials attribute Morocco's success in keeping both infections and deaths low to a robust vaccination campaign as the nation approaches the two-year mark. Despite the ongoing pandemic, Morocco continues to effectively manage COVID-19 through vigilant monitoring, extensive testing, and ongoing immunization efforts.
