Moroccan Official Advocates for Advancing African Energy Infrastructure
Amina Benkhadra, the managing director of Morocco's Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), highlighted the crucial importance for African nations to prioritize the enhancement of their energy infrastructure as a catalyst for socioeconomic advancement.
Addressing a conference on oil, gas, and power in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on Tuesday, Benkhadra underscored the vital role that modern infrastructure plays in fostering progress across the continent. She specifically pointed to the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project as a tangible demonstration of inter-regional cooperation and development.
"Thanks to the enlightened vision of leaders in both countries, Morocco is committed to supporting energy growth in the region through this project, which is considered a cornerstone for regional integration," Benkhadra expressed to reporters.
The conference brought together energy ministers, global partners, field experts, and agency representatives to deliberate on expanding energy opportunities in Africa.
Benkhadra emphasized that the gas pipeline initiative would not only enhance overall energy security but also contribute to the expansion of the mining industry and the provision of power to both African and European nations. She stressed the significance of the event for ONHYM to acquire valuable insights and experiences.
The overarching theme of the conference, "Expanding Energy Opportunities for New Horizons in Africa," highlighted Morocco's commitment to leveraging energy development to reinforce collaboration across Africa under the guidance of King Mohammed VI.
